General Summary:

Tests and modifies general systems-level software/hardware, specialized utility and/or hardware. Interprets wireless specifications. Designs test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures. Documents systems-level defects, using a bug tracking system, and report defects to developers. Identifies, analyzes, troubleshoots, and documents problems with program function, output, or content. Develops testing programs that assess effectiveness of a new system or modification of an existing system.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 10+ years of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 9+ years of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.

• 15+ years of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts staff meetings to get involved in solving technical and people problems, quality initiatives, efficiencies, and customer support areas.
• Provides guidance across teams on prioritization of work tasks.
• Conducts regular meetings with senior level engineers to determine whether there are larger root causes associated with recurring issues.
• Leads the design, implementation, testing, and communication of issues associated with an entire solution area or project with high visibility and scope.
• Ensures that others provide support and thought leadership to the team with regard to identifying and understanding systems failure.
• Motivates entire teams or functional groups to perform at their best and accept change.
• Reviews assigned projects and determines the level of analyses and associated work that needs to be conducted in order to address these project deadlines and assigns projects across teams accordingly.
• Manages the implementation of a testing plan and ensures test cases appropriately and fully address the feature functionality.
• Creates overarching test strategy in order to direct work for the entire team.
• Checks in with Principals and Senior Staff Engineers to determine project status and assist with overcoming barriers to meeting deadlines.
• Allocates workload (which includes key decisions, project management, and resource allocation) among senior team members by taking into consideration employee availability, skill set, and current workload when making assignments.
• Develops, coaches, and mentors senior members of the team and provides development assignments.
• Sets the strategic direction for the discipline and communicates that strategy up, down, and across the organization.
• Leads proactive discussions with colleagues from across the organization about addressing feature requirements, meeting client needs, and organization-wide implications of that work.
• Advises and teaches senior members of the team on how to achieve effective job performance. • Manages the performance of team members by meeting regularly with each member to discuss current and future state of project and other work.
• Communicates performance expectations and monitors and evaluates performance of senior members of team to ensure plans are met.
• Works with high-level representatives from other functions (e.g., development group, strategy group, customer engineering) and other countries to integrate testing with other components of a larger initiative.

Level of Responsibility:

• Working independently with no supervision.
• Making decisions that are significant in impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.
• Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.
• Responsible to ensure budgets, schedules, and performance standards for functional areas and organization are realistically set and attained. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve objectives results in significant long-term impact on the company's overall success.
• Having a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is making or directly making key decisions that have substantial impact on the organization).
• Completing tasks that require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; tasks require simultaneously executing multiple cognitive abilities and maintaining information in short- or long-term memory.
• Regularly determines what needs to be done and is involved with sharing innovative solutions to achieve broad policies and objectives.
• Working on abstract problems in variable situations that typically require complex analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of intangible factors. Directs the resolution of complex problems that have impact beyond own area. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
• Develops, redesigns organizational strategies and provides overall direction for various functional areas and/or entire organization. Has influence over the formulation and achievement of long-term business plans and objectives.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:

$236,700.00 - $355,100.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
