Qualcomm Software Engineers collaborate with systems, hardware, architecture, test engineers, and other teams to design system-level software solutions.

The Qualcomm Voice and Music Tools team provide a suite of tools to enable and support application development, debugging, testing and production of our products (predominantly earbuds). Within the Tools group, the Pylib team provides a tool that is used as the primary debugger for our voice and music products. It is used for communicating with, modeling, debugging, developing, and testing our voice and music firmware which is mainly written in C and runs on a multicore device.

The tool is a critical component in our embedded debug tools chain solution, used internally by multiple development and validation teams, as well as externally by our customers, it requires continuous extension and support. Our work is mainly focused on Voice and Music chips, but a few other chips are also supported. It is a Python class library designed to make it easy to access, debug and model a variety of Qualcomm chips in various ways, it provides interactive access via the Python console as well as programmatic interfaces for autoed test, build and integration systems.

The Voice and Music team is looking for motivated individuals to intern in the team to enhance the tools for our firmware. As part of the team, you'll be working on extending the tool with new features as well as ensuring that is continues to work. You'll have the opportunity to engage with a broad range of hardware and software development teams to ensure leading performance, efficiency and security of the CPUs across the development life cycle.

The internship for up to a period of 4 months and can start as early as June 2026.

Potential areas of contribution include

  • Develop detailed custom debug data offload features based on an existing Coresight ATB framework
  • Debugging of complex multi-core embedded firmware software implementations and complex object-oriented host based software implementations
  • Automated testing and Continuous Integration maintenance and enhancements
  • Develop new Python features within the Pylib framework to analyse and report specific aspects of firmware function and performance
  • Develop new firmware log analysis features to assist rapid debugging of complex on-chip application behaviour

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled in bachelor's, master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in Python and comfortable working with C programming language
  • Exposure to embedded system debugging

Preferred Skills

  • Coursework in the following areas - Computer architecture, Embedded Systems
  • Familiar with common development practice (version control, coding style, review, etc.)
  • Self-starter and motivated to learn
