Justification:

Voice activated on-device AI is gaining traction in the industry as it offers users a secure, low power, and cost-efficient way to exploit the power of AI and enrich their lives. Qualcomm’s chipsets, with their high compute capability and low power consumption, are well positioned to offer the best voice AI experience on all devices. To accelerate this AI revolution, Qualcomm voice AI team is working on various AI features: on-device speech recognition, on-device speaker diarization & separation, multi-modal (voice + camera + sensors) activation, & front-end echo cancellation & noise suppression processing for enhancing end-to-end voice AI experience. Successful commercialization of voice AI features requires research & exploration of in-house & open-source voice AI capabilities, development & augmentation of existing voice AI features and partnering with various customers & vendors in delivering high quality solutions and beating performance expectations. We need to hire a talented engineer with AI algorithm development & SW coding expertise to help with the growing needs of various Voice AI features.

Job Overview:

Voice AI refers to voice activated Gen-AI and it is revolutionizing the way people use mobile, compute, XR & IOT devices. Qualcomm is at the forefront of this voice AI revolution and Qualcomm’s audio systems team propels the AI adoption by developing & commercializing a wide range of voice AI technologies: multimodal (audio/camera) AI solutions, LLMs, speech enhancement for gen AI etc. We are looking for a highly talented engineer with speech & AI expertise to join us in the voice AI revolution.

A Voice AI systems engineer is expected to execute through the entire life cycle of the technologies, including problem definition, algorithm development and simulation, algorithm implementation with a programming language such as Matlab or Python or C, coordinating with various cross functionality teams in successfully commercializing the technology in Qualcomm's embedded platforms or hardware, engaging with leading customers to ensure successful product launch, and providing trainings to both internal teams and customers. The systems engineer will have the opportunity to work with multiple internal teams across different time zones and may have to up 10% or less business travel on average. We are seeking candidates with technical excellence in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Machine learning and industry experience in algorithm development & commercialization.


Responsibilities: The selected candidate will have responsibilities in one or more of the following areas:

· Voice AI audio algorithm development for meeting customer expectations

· Training machine learning models for voice AI including gen AI applications

· Tuning audio algorithms for meeting customer requirements & specifications

· Working with both internal teams and customers for successful commercialization.

· Coordinating with various teams for technology productization

· Demo prototyping and preparation;

· Supporting marketing team for technology promotion;

· Technology evaluation and competitive analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

· Solid background in Machine learning and digital signal processing (DSP) fundamentals.

  • At least 5+ years of industrial experience in relevant areas – audio signal processing solutions, development and/or commercialization of embedded solutions.
  • Experience with machine learning tools, techniques, analysis and model development.

· Excellent programming and debugging skills in C/C++ and experience in Windows and/or Unix/Linux development environments.

· Excellent verbal and written communication, and presentation skills.

· Leadership qualities and a committed team player.

· Good programming skills with python.

Preferred Qualifications

· Expertise in machine learning-based digital signal processing techniques such as speech recognition, speaker diarization, speech enhancement, noise suppression etc.

· Expertise in digital signal processing techniques such as signal modeling, spectrum analysis and estimation, statistical signal processing, adaptive filter theory.

· Expertise in Deep learning / Deep networks.

· Knowledge in speech & audio signal processing, array signal processing, noise reduction, speech enhancement.

· Knowledge of fixed-point programming in Python, C and Matlab.

Education Requirements

Required: Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering with significant digital signal processing coursework and projects.
Preferred: PhD degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering with emphasis in digital signal processing or Machine learning and/or speech & audio processing
