Mechanical Engineer, Facilities and Construction, will have two main roles. One role will be working on mechanical design/construction observation for new or renovated facilities projects in the Asia region, either as an in-house designer on selective projects (working with an internal design team) or as a reviewer on designs created by outside design firms under contract to Qualcomm. This role will include preparing mechanical project requirements and scopes and monitoring outside design consultants’ adherence to those requirements. The second role will be to work with Qualcomm facilities staff to plan for and implement improvements to mechanical and plumbing systems at Qualcomm buildings in the region, including in such areas as control and monitoring systems and sustainable design initiatives.
Candidate technical skills include a comprehensive understanding of BMS system, its architecture, components and functions and able to review graphical user interfaces, designs etc
Candidate shall be part of a multi-discipline internal design studio and will be responsible for the mechanical and plumbing engineering to the entire team; the candidate shall provide mechanical and plumbing expertise and input required to assist the design team to proceed in the right direction. Candidate will participate in and host meetings with end users and Facilities Operators to establish programmatic requirements for new and altered spaces.
Candidate shall represent the Qualcomm Real Estate and Facilities department as a prime contact for MEP projects in the region with both internal and external customers and shall interact with all levels of management and staff.
Candidate work is to be performed without considerable direction, and must exercise considerable latitude in selecting methods, objectives, and approaches to accomplish complex assignments.
Candidate must routinely identify, develop, and execute technical solutions to complex problems, providing solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious. May refer to precedents and policies in determining appropriate methods and techniques and in reaching solutions that are creative, thorough, and practical.
Candidate must have the ability to travel to other cities within the country and other countries within the Asia region.
This position reports directly to Qualcomm Facilities Engineering Bangalore team leader, and indirectly to Senior Manager in San Diego, California, USA.
Designs building mechanical, plumbing and control systems. Assist with the review of mechanical designs submitted by contracted design firms and identify areas where the designs do not comply with the applicable mechanical codes and good practices.
5+ years design experience in areas of engineering including full building mechanical, plumbing, HVAC Central Plant and distribution systems, compressed air systems, data centers, power plants, co-generating systems, sustainable design, energy audits, commissioning of mechanical systems, and engineering studies.
3+ years’ experience with HVAC Thermal Load design and Energy Compliance software is required.
3+ years’ experience designing and drawing in AutoCAD, Revit/ BIM, performing Life Cycle Cost analysis using packaged software or Excel spreadsheets is absolutely required.
3+ years’ experience being a Design Project Manager for a Mechanical Systems Design Firm or equivalent experience is absolutely required.
