General Summary:
The Video Codec / Video Encoding Algorithm Engineer will contribute to the research, development, modeling, and optimization of advanced video codec technologies. This role involves algorithm design, hardware-oriented optimization, system-level performance modeling, and implementation on custom SoC platforms. Candidates will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to define architectures, optimize performance, and deliver next‑generation video codec IP for a wide range of markets including mobile, XR, automotive, and IoT.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leverage advanced video codec engineering knowledge to design and develop next‑generation video codec hardware and algorithms
• Perform architecture studies, standard analysis, and algorithm decomposition to drive hardware and system requirements
• Implement and optimize algorithms for custom hardware pipelines and custom SoC platforms
• Build and refine system-level and hardware performance models for video codec components
• Lead triage of complex system, algorithm, or hardware issues, identifying root causes and driving resolution
• Collaborate across design, verification, system, firmware, software, SoC, and power teams to support product development across mobile, XR, automotive, IoT, and other domains
• Produce detailed technical documentation, specifications, and feature descriptions for internal teams and customers
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and 3+ years of relevant experience
OR
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience
OR
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and 1+ year of relevant experience
• Knowledge and experience with major video coding standards such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, AV1, VVC, VP9
• Hands-on experience with video encoder algorithms, decoder flow, and codec system behavior
• Experience in C/C++ programming
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in video codec system modeling, TLM modeling, or architecture decomposition
• Experience with video codec hardware performance modeling or SoC performance analysis
• Familiarity with Python or shell scripting for algorithm automation and validation
• Experience with low‑level C/C++ suitable for hardware‑targeted implementation and optimization
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
