Company:

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > SoC Architecture

General Summary:

Research, innovate and provide SoC architecture platforms and solutions for all SoC’s across QCT. Engage collaboratively across teams and organizational boundaries, including with Hardware design & Verification, Software, Product Management and Product Planning teams to create leading SoC-wide solutions that provide the best-in-class cost, performance, and power. Develop, model and prototype new system solutions and approaches across functional tech IPs that allow our hardware technologies to be used efficiently and allow our customers to make better use of our hardware. Conduct hands-on workload analysis including algorithm optimization and analysis of performance and/or power characterizations to help define our SoC architecture solutions. Deploy simulators, profilers, and hardware solutions to provide quantitative justification for architectural directions. Efficiently communicate experimental results, review with technical leads and peers, and analyze outstanding issues. Innovate and develop new cross-IP SoC-wide solutions that enable existing and emerging market SoCs to meet their separate, unique product requirements for these technology areas: Power System, Shared Resource Management, Limits/Thermal Management, Hardware Islands, Debug, Safety, ARM Compliance, Exclusive Monitors and Far Atomics, Coherency, Memory Ordering, Memory Management, Virtualization, Control Processors, Signaling, Compression, Streaming, Always-On and system level ML.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

• 2+ years of experience in one or more system architecture technology areas and products (e.g., Power System, Shared Resource Management, Limits/Thermal Management, Hardware Islands).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's or Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

• 8+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.

• 3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Sr Director level and above).

• 4+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports).

2+ years of working with operating budgets and/or project financials.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Independently researches and works cross-functionally to define requirements (e.g., performance, power, cost).
• Develops architecture for complex features and subsystems; recommends architecture enhancements.
• Serves as a technical expert in identifying complex issues or patterns of issues; helps others debug issues and develop solutions; participates in model/design reviews and recommends improvements to ensure alignment with customer needs.
• Strategically adds value to platform, methodology, and tools for modeling. Acts as a technical lead and builds highly complex models and runs simulations and analyses of power, performance, and other KPIs at the system level; interprets results and impact on system or customer requirements and works with leaders to guide architectural decisions.
• Influences and negotiates with external partners to gain buy-in for ideas and align on project and subsystem implementation plans and milestones to ensure the needs of all stakeholders are met.
• Acts as a technical expert to others on industry trends, competitors' products, and advances in various engineering fields related to areas of specialization; shares expertise within and/or across teams.
• Leverages deep technical expertise to identify trends and define future solutions by contributing to discussions on the short- and long-term strategic direction of the product/technology roadmaps.
• Guides team members to develop new ideas and directions to explore for new initiatives; reviews recommendations and provides feedback to team members.
• Guides team members to write clear and detailed technical documentation, specifications, and/or feature descriptions; Writes and reviews documentation to ensure it can be easily understood by a variety of audiences.

Level of Responsibility:

• Works independently with little supervision.
• Provides some supervision/guidance to other members; does not have direct reports.
• Decisions are more significant in their impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives. Errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; Errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.
• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.
• Works within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules and result in the re-allocation of some resources.
• Has a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is making or directly making key decisions that will have substantial impact over the organization).
• Most tasks do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.
• Regularly determines what needs to be done and is involved with sharing innovative solutions to achieve broad policies and objectives.
• Works on abstract problems in variable situations that typically require complex analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of intangible factors. Directs the resolution of complex problems that have impact beyond own area. Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
• Participates in the organization's planning process, interpreting business strategies, establishing strategic plans and objectives for multiple areas and functions. Decisions may affect entire organization.
